Strike out on one of the many trails or take a ride up the Silver Queen chair lift on the mountain to hike the peak. There are so many places to explore by foot in Crested Butte that even many of the old timers around here haven't seen them all. High alpine lakes, strenuous peak hikes, a stroll by the river or a multi day hike and everything in-between. Lace up your hiking boots, pack some water and go enjoy. I recommend getting a copy of the hiking trail book for the area. You can find it here.
Founded in 1983 the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association is the oldest mountain bike club on the planet. They are responsible for over 450 miles of single track in the area. Check out their website to get educated, find great trails and of course please get involved and donate to this great organization. There are several options for bike rentals in town and on the mountain. Below are a couple of locally owned options. Please support local!

You can always find a secluded spot to call your own for the day if you are willing to do a little looking. If guided tours are more your thing those are available too. Check out any of the local fly shops to get info on the hot spots and what the fish are chasing. Here are a couple options:
Looking for a chance to sleep under the stars? Come and do some exploring. Camp grounds fill up fast in the summer so make your plans in advance. There is also dispersed camping in the national forest, but be sure to come prepared. Bring plenty of water and have the necessary gear to pack all of your waste and trash out with you. Leave no trace!
The activities available on the mountain are growing every year. You and the kids can enjoy lift accessible downhill mountain biking, trampolines, rock climbing wall, mini golf and outdoor concerts. Check out Crested Butte Mountain Resort for more information.
If hanging out in town is more your cup of tea, or if you are looking for something to do after spending the day out in the mountains, Crested Butte does an amazing job of bringing artists and musicians to town. There are usually multiple outdoor concerts weekly and throughout the summer there are several festivals. Updated information on what's going on can be found here.
